Our 7th and 8th graders are off on an unforgettable three-day retreat at High Camp Hut! Over the next few days, they'll be diving deep into winter ecology, animal adaptations, cold-weather wilderness first aid, and non-fiction reading, writing, and journaling. This off-grid adventure isn’t just about learning—it’s about unplugging, connecting, and experiencing the beauty of the outdoors together. Much like our spring and fall experiential learning trips, this retreat gives students the chance to live, learn, and grow in nature.

We invite you to join us for this month’s SEL Coffee Chat with School Counselor Claire Eastham around Healthy Choices and the messaging to help navigate conversations with your child and understand what normal behavior is and when to be concerned.
Date: Monday, February 10th
Time: 9:00- 10:30a.m. (Immediately following the morning meeting)
Location: Seminar Room
The messages children receive from peers and role models, through media and sometimes at home, play a crucial role in shaping their perceptions of diet, exercise, body image, and the pressures to conform to “ideal” yet often unrealistic standards. These influences collectively have a lasting impact on children’s mental and emotional well-being.
This discussion is relevant to parents of students of all ages. Join us for an open conversation on these challenging and sometimes tricky topics:
Body image and self-esteem
Healthy eating habits and relationships with food
Managing societal and peer pressure
Self-care practices (sleep, screen time, time management, hygiene, and exercise)
Coffee Chats are an excellent opportunity for family and friends to also benefit from these insightful discussions, please feel free to invite them.
We look forward to seeing you there!

TMS students have landed in Japan! For the next two weeks, our high school students will dive into Japanese culture, exploring Niseko, Kyoto, Hiroshima, and Tokyo! Lower School outdoor education trips are back! Our students had incredible adventures — from learning about the local food system to hiking and exploring the Lizard Head Wilderness to paddling 45 miles down the Green River. They unplugged, connected with nature, and created memories that will last a lifetime!!

This year lower school students will be participating in the “Trout in the Classroom” program! They’ll raise trout from eggs and release them in the river this spring. To prepare the tank for the eggs students explored our very own, San Miguel river to learn what makes it a perfect habitat for trout. They’ll use these observations to recreate the ecosystem in our classroom tank. What a great way to connect with our watershed and explore the balance of ecosystems! 🌊🐟

🚴♂️🚴♀️ The new TMS Mountain Bike Club hit the trails this week, and it was a blast! What an awesome way for our students to spend the afternoon—riding, exploring, and having fun together!

Guess who's back?! TMS faculty kicked off the first day with a fun game of handball! The 'A-Team' is back in action, gearing up for an amazing school year ahead. Let the adventure begin!

Our 5th and 6th-grade students are having a wonderful time on their spring trip to Penikese Island. Yesterday, they had a fantastic day birding, studying ocean acidification, and measuring water salinity. Tomorrow, they are looking forward to touring the Paul Revere House and exploring a section of the Freedom Trail.

Today, our Upper School students shared their love of learning with the Montessori students by showing them how to use microscopes.

Lower school students recently concluded their exploration of ancient China and India by coming together for a delectable feast! As a culmination of their studies, students had the opportunity to prepare chapati and paratha during a science class, fostering an interdisciplinary connection that integrated various subjects.

Here are just a few highlights from our 9th-grade Apex Programming sea kayak expedition in Baja! 🛶 This hands-on experience wasn't just about adventure - it's a key part of our interdisciplinary unit, enhancing biology curriculum and fostering outdoor leadership skills! Welcome back 9th-graders!

Special thanks to Madi from Mountain Gate Tea for a beautiful tea ceremony today, immersing our lower school students in the wonders of ancient China. The Pu-erh tea, carefully sourced from 1000-year-old trees, was a wonderful way to connect students to the same brew enjoyed by the Chinese for centuries.
