Mary Purnell grew up in a little sailing town in Maryland. She swore at a young age that she would never again live in a small town — especially one so largely defined by an outdoor sport! Now, she happily spends her days teaching high school English in a little ski town in Colorado, the irony of which is not lost on her. She is delighted to be part of TMS family, where she hopes to ignite a love of literature in others and produce eloquent, commanding writers.
Mary earned her bachelor’s in English with a minor in Spanish from the University of Delaware. She is particularly passionate about developing student composition skills, and has worked as a tutor and writing coach for years. Her enthusiasm for educating is matched only by her joy in learning.
And when she’s not at TMS? Usually, you can find Mary splatter-painting and exploring nature with her bubbly band of preschoolers from Mountain Sprouts, where she directs the Spanish immersion program. Otherwise, she is out enjoying Telluride. She loves to hike really tall things, climb relatively short things, bike on the green trails and ski on the black ones.
