Telluride Mountain School invites students in grades K–8 to experience the extraordinary winter season of Telluride, Colorado, through Winter Term Telluride (WTT). Designed for families seeking a meaningful winter academic experience, WTT combines uninterrupted, high-quality learning with the unmatched opportunities of life and sport in the San Juan Mountains.

HOW DOES WTT WORK?

At TMS, winter is not a pause from learning - it is an extension of it. Our small classes, individualized approach, and deeply relational school community allow students to enter a supportive environment where they are known, challenged, and encouraged from their first day. Whether joining us for a portion of the season or a full Winter Term, students become active members of a vibrant learning community grounded in curiosity, confidence, kindness, and connection.

WTT provides a robust academic program that keeps students progressing in core subject areas while drawing inspiration from the surrounding landscape and local community. Teachers meet students where they are academically, build on their strengths, and provide the guidance needed to support a smooth transition back to their home schools. Learning is active, purposeful, and connected to the real world—both in the classroom and beyond it.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS WTT?

The program is equally shaped by the remarkable access students have to Telluride’s world-class mountain environment. Regular on-snow experiences allow students to build competence, confidence, resilience, and a lifelong appreciation for outdoor recreation. Our skiing and snowboarding program is tailored to students’ individual experience levels and goals, from early-years learn-to-ski instruction to advanced opportunities for experienced athletes, including participation in the TMS Freeride Committee. Guided by experienced faculty and mountain professionals, students develop technical skills while practicing sound judgment, teamwork, perseverance, and respect for the natural environment. Time on the mountain becomes a powerful complement to classroom learning: a place where students take healthy risks, learn from challenges, support one another, and discover what they are capable of achieving.
