Telluride Mountain School Photos

Telluride Mountain School of today is a learning environment that is the fruit of much hard work and determination by its founders and by those families who have joined the school since it began. The founders came together in 1998 to create a learning community that inspired and grounded their children in the areas of challenging academics, outdoor education, a values-based curriculum and community service. The combined focus of these varied skill areas fosters the best of learning environments and the development of well-rounded and talented young men and women. Our students are kind, having acquired a strong sense of self and a warm regard for others, and they are successful, having been asked and allowed to follow learning interests to their fullest potential.

Ernie Patterson
Head of School

As Head of School, I am continually inspired by this unique community. My time here thus far has been filled with many exciting projects: the addition of a full upper school, the completion of the accreditation process, the acquisition and renovation of a new facility and the establishment of a permanent endowment to sustain the institution. My greatest satisfaction, however, comes from the knowledge that all of these big-picture endeavors are underpinned by a vital and caring school community. The Mountain School enrolls students who are not only talented scholars, but also individuals who are dedicated to working with their families to better the world through the sharing of their unique gifts. We are blessed in having energetic, thoughtful and well-rounded individuals who are committed to improving their local and global community.

Telluride Mountain School community is characterized by a sense of inquiry and joy. Our energetic and talented faculty members rise to the challenges of providing a rigorous and well-rounded curriculum. They find our small, multi-age classrooms just the place for teaching mastery in a variety skill areas, as well as a venue for inspiring discovery and accelerated development in our students. These dedicated individuals prove that a demanding and relational approach to teaching is inherently rewarding to both student and teacher.

We welcome this opportunity to share our community with you. We hope that your interest in the Mountain School will be piqued as you read through this site . We have attempted to answer many of your questions through the presentation of this material ; however, the best way to learn about the school is to visit and meet our students, parents and faculty.

We look forward to welcoming you into our community.
