Telluride Mountain School began the second phase of its transition to a new Head of School by launching a national search for a new leader on July 15, 2010. The goal is to identify and recruit a dynamic Head to lead the 11-year-old school to its next stage of maturity beginning July 2011.

The school planned a two-year transition to new leadership following the departure of longtime Head Ernie Patterson at the end of the 2008-09 school year. Having administered the school for nine years, Patterson left to take a job in the private sector. He was replaced on an interim basis by Jim Loan, a seasoned independent school administrator who was hired to shepherd the school through its transition. Loan is currently in the second year of a two-year term.

The Board of Trustees has appointed a Head Search Committee to conduct the search, including:

Anne Brown, Vice President and Committee Chair
Grace Engbring, President
Jim Loan, Interim Head of School
Diana Mulligan, Trustee and Candidate Coordinator
Stephanie Anagnostou, Trustee and Interview Coordinator
Virginia Egger, School Founder and Advisory Trustee
