GIFT PLANNING OPTIONS
Gift Planning Options
There are a variety of ways to make a gift to support Montessori @ Mountain School and Telluride Mountain School. Both cash
and non-cash gifts offer certain tax advantages while allowing TMS to use the gift immediately. In addition, there are options for
long-term support.
Please note: Contributions to M@MS are currently eligible for both Federal tax credit and Colorado Child Care Tax Credit, which
may make contributions cost as little as twenty-five cents on the dollar after tax benefits.
Cash
TMS accepts gifts of cash and these gifts are deductible up to 50% of your adjusted gross income, with five years to carry over any deductible amounts not used in the year of your gift.
Appreciated Assets
Long-term appreciated assets such as stock or mutual funds are a great way to support TMS. For securities owned more than one year, you will receive an income tax deduction for the full fair-market value and you will completely avoid capital gains tax.
Real Estate
TMS accepts gifts of approved residential and commercial properties. These properties are then sold and the proceeds used to further our mission. You will generally receive an income tax deduction for the full fair-market value of a property you have owned more than one year and completely avoid capital gains tax.
Gifts of appreciated securities and real estate are deductible up to 30% of your adjusted gross income, with five years to carry over any deductible amounts not used in the year of your gift.
Wills/Bequests
A bequest in your will or living trust is a meaningful way to provide long-term support for TMS. A bequest to TMS would be deductible for estate tax purposes. There are many ways to leave a bequest to TMS.
- You can leave a set dollar amount.
- You can leave a particular asset such as securities or real estate.
- You can designate TMS as the beneficiary of a percentage of your estate or leave a residual bequest.
- Legal Designation
If you would like to make a bequest, please consult your legal advisor and have the following sample language included in your will or living trust:
“I give, devise, and bequeath to Telluride Mountain School, a nonprofit Colorado public benefit corporation with a business address of 200 San Miguel River Drive, Telluride, Colorado, 81435, the sum of ___________________dollars [or otherwise describe the gift or assets] for its general purposes and use at the discretion of the Telluride Mountain School’s Board of Trustees."
Telluride Mountain School’s tax identification number is
84-148-1180. |
Beneficiary Designations
TMS can be named as a beneficiary of assets remaining after your lifetime in your Roth IRA, traditional IRA, or other qualified retirement plan such as a 401(k) or 403(b).
