Andy Shoff is the Dean of Studies and an Upper School math and science teacher at the Telluride Mountain School. He grew up in Ohio where he attended University School for Boys and found his way to the mountains to attend Colorado College. While there, he studied geology and served as chair of the outing club. For three years he left the Rockies to explore the Cascades where he taught math, science, and woodshop at The Arbor School in Portland, Oregon. He also led science field trips for the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry and backcountry trips for Wilderness Ventures, a wilderness-based teen adventure program. Andy arrived at the Mountain School in 2002 after traveling around the world and teaching English and computer literacy with his wife, Emily, in Tanzania. They have two daughters; the older attends the Montessori School. Andy is currently working on a Master’s Degree in Private School Leadership through the Klingenstein Center at Columbia University. An avid telemark skier and backpacker, Andy loves the opportunities he has at the Mountain School to spend time in the field with students, conducting scientific studies and teaching backcountry skills.
