Sarah Barthelow joins the TMS staff as the upper school humanities teacher. Sarah grew up in the San Juan Islands off the coast of Washington State where she developed early on a love for small communities, beautiful scenery, and outdoor adventures. She eventually found her way to the San Francisco Bay area where she attended Stanford University, majoring in Anthropology. After graduating in 2004, Sarah moved to England to further pursue her studies at the University of Oxford, where she earned a Master's degree in Social Anthropology. Her Master's thesis focused on HIV prevention efforts in Zambia, and Sarah has since spent two summers teaching HIV/AIDS education in high schools throughout eastern and southern Africa. Sarah moved to Telluride from San Francisco, California where she spent two years teaching at the San Francisco Day School, working with fifth and sixth graders. After completing a social studies teaching credential, Sarah decided to uproot and move to the mountains. An avid world traveler, she has visited over two dozen countries on five continents. She also loves yoga, writing, and teaching!
