Winter
Sports Program
The Winter Sports Program at the Mountain School
is a developmental program that accommodates all skill levels, from
the recreational skier/snowboarder to the aspiring competitor.
The school offers a program in which
all students are challenged to put forth their best effort and achieve
their personal goals. The work ethic, commitment, and time management
skills learned while participating in the Winter Sports Program
develop high achieving athletes, while teaching vital life skills
that all students can apply to any task in any arena in which they
become involved.
Students are on the mountain or immersed in the winter outdoor environment from December through the end of the ski season with first through sixth graders participating one day per week and seventh through twelfth graders participating two afternoons a week. Winter Sports Program activities include alpine and Nordic skiing, snowshoeing, ice climbing, and skating.
Physical Education
Mountain School students are encouraged to participate in athletic
programs offered by the local public school, sports clubs, and the
Town of Telluride Parks and Recreation Department. Examples of athletic
programs in which students participate include soccer, basketball,
baseball/softball, football, volleyball, lacrosse, hockey, gymnastics,
martial arts and dance. Lower school students participate in athletic classes during the fall and spring in order to help develop athletic aptitude.
