Thomas Thacher joins Telluride Mountain School as the upper school history teacher this year. Although Thomas is a new staff member, he is no stranger to either TMS or the Telluride community. For the last three years, he has been working in town, adventuring in the mountains, and fishing whenever he has had a chance to cast a line in the water. In 2005, he also had the opportunity to work as the TMS Assistant History Teacher and Freestyle Ski Coach.A graduate of St. George’s Prep School, Newport, RI and The Colorado College, Thomas received a B.A. degree in history and political science while also focusing on best practices in teaching. While in college, he participated in a semester-long experiential education program at sea and then went on to work as a crewmember and teacher aboard traditional schooners in the western Atlantic Ocean. Thomas has also traveled extensively in Africa, the South Pacific, and South America. He is now excited to combine his knowledge of history, enthusiasm for teaching, and commitment to the TMS community in order to provide dynamic classes throughout the coming year.
